PRACTICE MOVING BETTER

Moving better is an attitude about your training. It’s about slowing down & paying attention. It’s about learning to move with a sense of flow.

How do you want to move?

What if you were strong enough to move through challenges with a sense of confidence? Maybe it’s that handstand you want to stick or a feeling of being able to support your own weight through movement.

What if you were flexible enough to not only touch your toes, but to move fluidly from one shape to another? Think about chasing after your kids or playing your favorite sport/activity without restriction and fewer aches and pains.

What if you felt balanced not just physically (like when standing on one foot with your eyes closed doing a single leg squat), but mentally as well?

A different approach

Hi Mover,

Matt Toy here, but you can call me Matt (or yoga Matt if you really want to). That’s me up there with my son, playing around, doing some side lunges.

Welcome to my website.

Here you’ll find resources to help you move better in your yoga practice, athletic pursuits and daily life.

If you don’t already know me, I’m a yoga and movement teacher in Berkeley, black belt in Freestyle Martial Arts (predecessor to MMA), 2012 Pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago, and loving father.

While much of the fitness industry obsesses about more—more reps, more effort (more injuries), more noise & more hype—we take a different approach.

Here we focus on better.

Better movement means better breathing. Better breathing means better focus. Better focus means better results, not just in some distant timeframe, but here and now.

Better is really about your mindset—how you approach your training and your life.

Better is a choice.

Take a look around. When you’re ready to train, let me know.

Ways to train

Yoga & Group Classes

Join me in a group yoga or movement class in the Berkeley area. I teach weekly at Left Coast Power Yoga in Oakland, The Green Yogi in Berkeley, and Bridges Rock Gym in El Cerrito.

Personal Training

Do you need some extra help or individualized attention? I’m here for you (it’s what I do best). I help my students with goal setting, programming, and accountability. Plus, we have a lot of fun! Let’s do this together.

Small Group Training

Want to learn to move better with a supportive group of people? This is truly my favorite way to train clients—together! Learn to push, pull, squat, press, jump and move in playful ways. Check out my ongoing Strength, Mobility & Locomotion Circuit.
